More than a venue

Few places the Mediterranean have as many monuments, churches, museums and old palaces as Kotor and Prčanj. The birthplace of famous sailors, such as Ivo Vizin, a maritime explorer, the first Slavic, and the sixth navigator after Magellan to circumnavigate the Earth on his own ship.

Once a powerful maritime center, its landscape is dominated by the Church of Our Lady and the 18th-century Monastery of St. Nicholas which altar crafted in Venice in 1766 remains in its original state. A site that once served as an elementary school, a maritime academy for captains, and even a pharmacy today stands as a place of spirituality and culture.

MUSEUM

Passing through the captivating monastery and its gracefully arched gallery, visitors are granted access to the Church of St. Nicholas, a library housing rare book editions, and a museum salon that encompasses a collection of liturgical items alongside a local exhibition.

Among the original exhibits stands the votive painting “Our Lady of Prčanj” a gift from Ivo Vizin to Prčanj upon his return to his hometown, as well as an array of artistic paintings depicting sailing ships and portraits of Prčanj’s maritime captains. A particular rarity is the “Schiavone” sword, forged in Venice for the Slavics, which can be seen in a portrait of a captain in uniform.
